African designs returns to Design Miami/Basel

Design Miami/Basel is back, and the captivating Southern Guild will be there to represent Africa for the 3rd time.  The premier international art show based in Switzerland is known for Modern and contemporary works, and bringing leading galleries from around the world to the heart of Europe. The exhibition includes the highest-quality paintings, sculptures, drawings, installations, photographs and videos.

Southern Guild, South Africa’s foremost gallery for collectible, limited edition contemporary design will be bringing in their work from broader Africa. Established in 2008, the Southern Guild Gallery provides a forum for South African designers to challenge and support each other, unified by national origin, but with diverse views and voices, and their collections now have a reputation for innovation, excellence and a truly fresh perspective.

This year, Southern Guild works will be offering a powerful, primal narrative. “It’s a raw exploration of what sets us apart as a country, through our unique cultures with distinct historical references. “It blurs the line between sophisticated elegance and primal rawness” says co-founder Julian McGowan.

Southern Guild designers that are going to be showcased at the Design Miami/Basel will include Hamed Ouattara from Burkina Faso with ‘Cabinets’ and Mali’s Cheick Diallo, Peter Mabeo + Porky Hefer and more.
