Protective Styling: Crochet Braids

- Artsy Finds Everyday -

Are you still having to cancel a productive day in exchange for 6 hours of sitting to get braids in? If yes, then it’s time you opted for crochet braids.

With crochet braids you can expect a full head of single twist or braids in less than 3 hours. Just follow the instructions below, and you’ll have your first crochet braids installed in no time.

For this hair you’ll need: pre-twisted/braided hair, braiding hair extensions (optional) and Crochet Hook Latch

Start with freshly washed hair (or just clean hair). Please make sure your hair is saturated with enough oils and cream to ensure longevity of moisture, as you may keep this braid in for several weeks.

Start with freshly washed hair (or just clean hair). Please make sure your hair is saturated with the right oils and cream to ensure longevity of moisture as you may keep this braid in for several weeks.
Then comes the base – the cornrows. With this hair, extensions were added for tightening and thickening. if you look at the patterns you will notice the plaits intersecting in the middle, this is done to close partings because crochet braids allows you to neatly create multiple partings. Hurrah! to that.

Now take your crochet hook latch, open the hook from the latch. then put the latch hook through your braid. Before sliding it underneath your braid, please make sure your latch is flat and the hook is open . once it’s under the braid make sure the hook is still open.

Next step; you take a strand of hair, or a twist in this instance, you’re gonna hook it on to the latch, then close the hook. once you close the hook down, you can pull it through your braid.

Then open the hook, take the latch out.  Pull your hair through the loop and twist then tighten by moving your knot down to the braid.
